DIRECTORATE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
INTRODUCTION
The Directorate of Information Technology, previously know as LAN/WAN section was established in year 2004, after the successful completion of HEC funded "LAN /WAN Project".
To support and strengthen quality higher education and Research, UoB recognizes and further emphasizes the role of ICT in higher education and R&D. The UoB IT infrastructure is connected via PERN (Pakistan Education and Research Network). This UoB IT infrastructure includes In-Campus network connectivity (through fiber optics, UTP & Smart University WiFi), computer labs that facilitate in providing faculty/students the access to internet and to digital library (E-Books, E-journals etc).
Video conferencing facility is provided which is facilitating interactive learning, through which lectures are organized in different universities while the students and faculty attend them locally in UoB, with interactive questions and answers sessions. Furthermore, another important facility is that the faculty and students can download the latest Microsoft software products (via HEC-Microsoft Strategic Education Alliance Agreement).
University of Balochistan has also earned the status of Smart University under HEC Smart University Project. The UoB main campus has high speed blanket wifi coverage across the campus in all departments and including its different hostels.
