Kharan, situated in north-western of Balochistan province has the largest desert of Balochistan, it's the divisional headquarter of Rakhshan division. As for the historical background of Kharan, it is a district in Balochistan, known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance. Kharan has a diverse history, including its role in various ancient civilizations and its significance in the context of Balochistan's cultural tapestry. The region has witnessed changes and developments over the centuries, contributing to its unique identity within the broader historical context of Balochistan.

To provide higher education and research opportunities at the door steps of the people of Balochistan, University of Balochistan has extended its outreach to other districts of Balochistan as well. In first phase, Univesrity of Balochistan has established two of its sub-campuses at Kharan and Mastung districts. These campuses have been established under HEC umbrella project "Establishment of sub campuses of public sector universities at District level phase-I". The sub campus in Kharan was inaugurated in May 2017 and the academic activities started in October, 2017.

The University of Balochistan Sub Campus in Kharan is at its nascent stages and this is the 6^th year of its existence. The total enrollment in its 6^th year is 174 students in the three departments (Management Sciences, Computer Science and LLB) which is growing further and it is expected that the enrollment in campus will cross the figure of 600 in next five years as the key objective of the establishment of sub-campuses in remote areas to make accessible education for marginalized segments particularly females of the society without compromising on quality. Moreover, more than 87 students have already graduated and the majority of them are contributing to different national and international organizations as our esteemed alumni.
